Scientists are continuing to investigate the source of a harmful algae bloom in the Lipno Reservoir in the Czech Republic. The bloom consists of benthic cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae, which can release neurotoxins under certain conditions. These toxins pose a danger to dogs, potentially causing poisoning. Researchers from the Biological Centre and the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences are working to determine how the algae appeared in the reservoir. The exact origin of the bloom remains unknown, prompting ongoing monitoring and analysis. Authorities have not yet issued specific warnings beyond advising caution around the affected areas of the reservoir. Further research is needed to fully understand the risk and prevent future occurrences.
