Authorities in Da Nang, Vietnam have seized 3,000 units of *bánh ú tro* (glutinous rice cakes) containing industrial starch, a prohibited additive, before they could be sold to consumers. Police in Dai Loc commune discovered the additive, used to enhance the cakes’ texture, during an inspection of a local production facility. The substance, known as hàn the (potassium alum), is not permitted in food production due to potential health risks. The facility owner is being investigated for violating food safety regulations. The seized cakes were intended for distribution to local markets. This incident raises concerns about food safety standards and oversight within the region’s food production sector. Officials are working to prevent further distribution of the contaminated product.
