Designer Nguyễn Hoàng Tú is utilizing the traditional củ nâu (brown root) dyeing techniques of the Thái Đen people to create new garments from fabric scraps. This innovative approach addresses textile waste by repurposing leftover materials. The củ nâu dyeing method, traditionally practiced by the Thái Đen, provides a natural and sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes. Tú’s designs showcase the beauty and potential of this indigenous knowledge. The project not only minimizes environmental impact but also promotes the cultural heritage of the Thái Đen community. By transforming discarded fabrics, the designer offers a unique and environmentally conscious fashion statement. This practice offers a model for sustainable design within the fashion industry.
