Thai authorities at Suvarnabhumi Airport have intercepted a large shipment of live reptiles, totaling 126 individuals, intended for illegal export to the Philippines. The reptiles, including 88 ball pythons, were discovered concealed within two packages mislabeled as dried fruit snacks and food items. Officials from the Suvarnabhumi Airport Wildlife Checkpoint, operating under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, made the discovery. This seizure highlights ongoing concerns regarding wildlife trafficking through postal services. The illicit trade poses a threat to both the conservation of reptile populations and potentially introduces disease risks. Investigations are underway to identify those involved in the smuggling operation and prevent future incidents. The reptiles are now under the care of wildlife authorities.
