Tanzanian farmers generated 2.679 trillion shillings (approximately $1.2 billion USD) in revenue through the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) during the 2025/26 financial year. This success was highlighted in a recent report from the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB), presented in Dodoma. The WRS allows farmers to deposit their crops in certified warehouses and receive receipts which they can use as collateral for loans or to sell their produce at a better price. Alongside farmer earnings, Local Government Authorities also benefitted, collecting 61.05 billion shillings in crop cess. These figures demonstrate the WRS’s positive impact on both agricultural producers and local government finances. The system is intended to improve market access and financial inclusion for farmers across the country, fostering growth within the agricultural sector.
