The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) recently destroyed 39 tonnes of substandard food products valued at 14 million Tanzanian shillings (approximately $5,600 USD). The destruction took place in Mkuranga District, Coast Region, following inspections conducted in July and August. These products failed to meet the country’s required quality and labeling standards, raising concerns about public health and consumer protection. TBS officials initiated the action after routine checks revealed the goods were unfit for consumption. The move underscores the agency’s commitment to enforcing quality regulations within the food industry. This action aims to safeguard consumers and maintain the integrity of the Tanzanian market, preventing the circulation of potentially harmful products. Further details were provided by the TBS Dar es Salaam Special Zone Manager.
