Tanzania’s Bureau of Standards (TBS) is increasing its efforts to combat the trade of unregistered and substandard goods nationwide. The warning, issued by Eastern Zone Manager Cyril Kimario, specifically targets traders and importers dealing in unsafe products like food and cosmetics. This action follows the destruction of 5.6 tonnes of substandard items in the Mkuranga District, Coast Region, demonstrating the TBS’s commitment to consumer protection. The TBS is intensifying market surveillance to identify and remove dangerous products from circulation. This initiative aims to safeguard public health and ensure fair trade practices. Authorities urge businesses to comply with regulations and prioritize product quality to avoid penalties. The crackdown signals a stronger stance against substandard goods entering the Tanzanian market.
