Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba stated this move aims to reduce the high costs associated with transporting cement from distant production hubs. Regions like Kigoma, currently reliant on supplies from Mtwara, will particularly benefit from localized production. This initiative is expected to alleviate price pressures on consumers and improve accessibility to essential building materials. By bringing production closer to demand, the government hopes to stimulate regional economic growth. The decentralization plan underscores a commitment to reducing logistical challenges within the building materials sector and fostering self-sufficiency.
