Tanzania’s Minister of State in the Vice-President’s Office (Union and Environment), Engineer Hamad Yusuf Masauni, has directed local leaders and the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) to prioritize the inclusion of residents in environmental initiatives. Specifically, Masauni emphasized the importance of community participation in planning and executing waste collection systems around the Ng’ombe River. He also stressed the need to bolster environmental education programs to promote cleanliness and responsible environmental practices. Furthermore, a key component of his directive involves stricter enforcement of existing environmental laws to safeguard the Ng’ombe River’s ecosystem. The Minister’s call aims to foster a collaborative approach to environmental management in DAR ES SALAAM and surrounding areas. This increased focus on local involvement is expected to improve the overall health and sustainability of the Ng’ombe River environment. The directive appeared in the Daily News.
