A remarkably rare piece of Chinese calligraphy, believed lost during the turmoil of 1945, was sold for HK$177.45 million (US$22.6 million) in Hong Kong on Wednesday. The work, titled *Jishi Tie* (Accumulated Time Letter), was created by Yu Shinan, a prominent calligrapher of the early Tang dynasty (618-907). The auction took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, hosted by China Guardian Hong Kong as part of their autumn sale. After intense bidding, the hammer fell at HK$155 million, with the final price including buyer's premiums reaching the impressive US$22.6 million figure. This rediscovery and sale mark a significant event in the world of Chinese art and calligraphy. The scroll’s reappearance after decades underscores the enduring value and cultural importance of such historical artifacts.
