A Taiwanese search and rescue official is advocating for a cross-strait hotline for maritime emergencies. Yin Liu-sheng, of the Chinese Search and Rescue Association, made the appeal during a meeting in Fujian province, China. He stressed that search and rescue operations should be separate from political tensions between Taiwan and mainland China. Liu-sheng argued that collaboration is crucial for ensuring the safety of vessels and individuals in the Taiwan Strait. The proposal aims to facilitate quicker and more effective responses to incidents at sea, regardless of vessel origin or political affiliation. He believes prioritizing human life should supersede political differences in emergency situations. This call for cooperation highlights the potential benefits of joint efforts despite ongoing cross-strait complexities.
