A potential military conflict in the Taiwan Strait could involve a direct clash between American-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (Himars) and China’s PHL-16, known also as the PCL-191. Taiwan is anticipating the full delivery of its initially ordered 29 Himars systems by year’s end. Furthermore, an additional purchase of 82 Himars systems has been approved, increasing Taiwan’s planned arsenal to 111. This substantial acquisition aims to bolster Taiwan’s defensive capabilities against potential aggression. However, the availability of these systems, alongside the existing US military’s Himars, is becoming a key consideration in the escalating tensions. The growing military capabilities on both sides heighten the stakes in the Taiwan Strait and introduce a new dynamic to any potential conflict scenario.
