Members of Taiwan’s Indigenous communities gathered last month to protest the government’s response to the aftermath of Typhoon Ragasa. The demonstration took place outside the Executive Yuan and coincided with the one-year anniversary of severe flooding in Matai’an, known as Guangfu Township. The flooding, which occurred in September 2025, resulted in significant loss of life and widespread damage. Protesters are criticizing the delayed delivery of aid and support to those affected in Matai’an. They allege that the response was inadequate and failed to address the specific needs of the Indigenous population. The groups are demanding greater accountability and improved disaster preparedness measures for vulnerable communities in Taiwan. They seek assurances that future responses will be more timely and culturally sensitive.
