A recent surge in “physical vishing” scams has targeted 31 individuals in southern Sweden over three weeks in August. This type of fraud involves scammers posing as someone they are not over the phone before appearing in person at the victim's home. The victims are typically elderly individuals. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer visited Växjö today to address the growing concern and outline proposed solutions. Strömmer emphasized that citizens, particularly seniors, "should not feel fear when the phone rings," signaling a commitment to combating this crime. The government aims to reassure the public and prevent further exploitation through increased awareness and potential legal measures. This scam exploits trust and creates a sense of immediate threat to coerce victims.
