Swedish authorities are investigating Steinar Wangen, a 55-year-old Norwegian man, for allegedly offering assisted suicide to individuals through Facebook groups. A mapping exercise by Swedish public broadcaster SVT revealed Wangen contacted at least 50 people across six different groups. One contact was Sarimaria Anderberg of Svalöv, whose husband suffers from ALS. Anderberg expressed concern about Wangen’s approach, questioning her own emotional state had she been more vulnerable. Police have confirmed an investigation is underway, focusing on whether Wangen’s actions constitute a crime under Swedish law. Assisted suicide is illegal in Sweden, and offering it carries potential legal consequences. The investigation aims to determine the extent of Wangen’s activities and whether he actively encouraged or facilitated suicide attempts.
