Two surgeons in Naples have been temporarily suspended from practicing medicine following the death of a patient, Domenico, after a heart transplant. The decision comes after a preliminary investigation by the Naples Prosecutor's Office. The surgeons, Oppido and Bergonzoni, maintain they both performed the organ removal procedure simultaneously with the arrival of the donor heart from Bolzano, a claim documented in the patient’s medical records. Investigators, however, have rejected this account. The suspension follows a second interrogation of the surgeons three weeks after the transplant failure. The investigation is ongoing to determine the precise circumstances surrounding Domenico’s death and potential negligence.
