The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a cholera outbreak in Sudan’s West Kordofan state. According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as of today, there are 838 suspected cases of cholera reported in the region. Seven cases have been laboratory confirmed. Tragically, 117 deaths have been linked to the outbreak. The WHO is concerned about the potential for further spread, particularly given the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Authorities are working to implement control measures, but access to healthcare and clean water remains a significant challenge. The outbreak underscores the vulnerability of Sudan’s healthcare system and the urgent need for international assistance.
