A drone strike in Sudan, near the border with Ethiopia, has resulted in the deaths of at least forty people, according to Emergency Lawyers, an organization monitoring the Sudanese civil war. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are suspected of carrying out the attack, which targeted a refugee camp in the southeast of the country. The UN’s OCHA humanitarian organization has expressed shock, noting that the majority of the victims are women and children. The conflict in Sudan has been ongoing for over three years, pitting the RSF against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) following a power struggle after a joint coup. The UN considers the war to be the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, citing war crimes committed by both sides, with the RSF accused of particularly brutal violence exhibiting genocidal characteristics. The RSF controls much of western Sudan, including Darfur, while the SAF holds the east and north, including Khartoem, displacing millions of Sudanese people.
