Sudan is facing a deepening crisis with escalating tribal conflict between the Beni Halba and Salamat groups, triggered by the arrest of a prominent Beni Halba leader. Simultaneously, a high-ranking advisor has defected from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti). The RSF is reportedly mobilizing thousands of fighters in preparation for an attack on Al-Abyad, a key city in North Darfur. Accompanying this build-up, the RSF has been accused of burning villages and killing civilians in Orshi, also in North Darfur. Amidst the violence, the head of the Democratic Bloc is participating in informal consultations between Sudanese political parties in Oslo, seeking a path towards resolution. These developments signal a further fragmentation of the country and a worsening humanitarian situation.
