Pakistan is experiencing intermittent internet disruptions due to a fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable system. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is monitoring the situation and working with Transworld Associates (TWA), the cable owner, to identify the issue and restore service. TWA is rerouting traffic through alternative international links to minimize impact, and customers have received apologies for the inconvenience. While this fault occurred, Pakistan recently activated a new, higher-capacity cable – SEA-ME-WE 6 – offering improved connectivity between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The new cable boasts a capacity of over 100 terabits per second, with 13.2tbps allocated to Pakistan. Authorities are coordinating closely to manage the current disruptions and leverage the benefits of the upgraded infrastructure.
