Four students in Bangladesh’s Pabna district were ordered to plant 200 trees each after being caught skipping school. The Pabna Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) discovered the students, dressed in school uniforms, loitering near a pond on the eastern side of the Upazila Parishad premises. Instead of traditional punishment, the UNO assigned the students the community service of tree planting as a corrective measure. This action aims to instill a sense of responsibility and contribute to environmental conservation. The incident highlights a novel approach to addressing student absenteeism within the region. Local authorities believe this method will deter future truancy and promote civic engagement among young people.
