A Sessions Court in Teluk Intan has ruled that a school and two teachers were negligent in an incident at SMK Seri Intan in 2022. The ruling resulted in RM129,000 (approximately $30,000 USD) in damages being awarded to a student who suffered burns. The incident occurred during a bubur lambuk (rice porridge) preparation program at the school. The court found the school and teachers failed to ensure adequate safety measures were in place. This resulted in the student sustaining injuries from hot porridge. The awarded compensation aims to cover the student’s medical expenses, pain, and suffering. The case highlights the importance of safety protocols during school activities.
