A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck northern Japan on Thursday. The quake occurred off the east coast of Honshu, Japan’s largest island, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). Japan’s Meteorological Agency reported the epicenter was located 50 kilometers beneath the surface, off the coast of the Iwate region. Fortunately, no tsunami warning was issued following the seismic event. As of reports, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Authorities have confirmed no irregularities were detected at nuclear power plants and facilities in the area after the earthquake.
