Recent tropical cyclones and the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” have caused devastating impacts across the Philippines. Over 8.1 million individuals have been affected by the combined effects of storms Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and the intensified monsoon rains. Tragically, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 32 fatalities. The storms have led to widespread flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage. Affected regions are struggling with displacement and disruption to essential services. Authorities continue rescue and relief efforts, providing assistance to affected communities. The NDRRMC is assessing the full extent of the damage to prioritize recovery and rehabilitation initiatives.
