Valve, the company behind the popular gaming platform Steam, is phasing out physical Steam gift cards due to widespread fraud. The decision comes as gift cards are increasingly used in scams targeting Steam users. Finnish retailers Prisma and K-kauppa, along with Verkkokauppa.com, currently sell these cards but will not receive further shipments. Existing stock will be sold until depleted, after which physical gift cards will no longer be available. Valve cites the need to protect its users as the primary reason for this change. The company encourages users to utilize digital purchase methods instead. This move aims to curb fraudulent activities linked to the resale of gift cards.
