An analysis reveals discrepancies in publicly available data regarding rental agreements with Romania’s State Protocol Administration (RAAPPS). The lists of tenants and rental fees paid to RAAPPS do not fully disclose which officials reside in state-owned villas at reduced rates. Public documents concerning legal entities omit details about hotel activities and properties allocated to national defense and security institutions. Specifically, the analysis highlights that members of parliament from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) are paying rent at only a quarter of the properties’ actual value. This raises concerns about a lack of transparency and potential preferential treatment in the allocation and pricing of state-owned properties. The findings suggest the published lists are misleading and do not provide a complete picture of who benefits from these arrangements and at what cost. Further investigation is needed to clarify the full extent of these practices.
