The plot of *Velrybí pád* (Sperm Whale Fall) echoes the biblical tale of Jonah and the whale, centering around a diver swallowed by a massive sperm whale. The protagonist faces a limited time to escape from within the whale. Biologically, the diver’s survival is nearly impossible, introducing an element of absurdity. However, setting aside this implausibility, the film delivers suspense that is unfortunately offset by a significant amount of melodrama. The thriller attempts a balance between generating tension and employing overly dramatic sequences. The film’s success ultimately hinges on the viewer’s tolerance for the heightened emotionality alongside the claustrophobic premise.
