Wildfires in Southern France have led to the evacuation of multiple campsites in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, specifically in Canet-en-Roussillon and Sainte-Marie-de-la-Mer. Over 1,000 people have been evacuated from the Le Brasilia and Homair-La Marina de Canet camping complexes, as well as another nearby site. While no injuries have been reported, officials describe the situation as critical, with strong winds driving the fire towards the harbor area. The fires have prompted flight cancellations at Perpignan airport, and a significant firefighting effort is underway involving 215 firefighters, 25 fire trucks, and aircraft. Local authorities are urging the public to avoid the beaches and exercise extreme caution due to the elevated risk of wildfires exacerbated by ongoing heat. The campsites are reported to be heavily impacted and large areas of natural land, over 1000 hectares, are being destroyed in multiple departments.
