South Korea experienced its highest recorded temperature on Sunday, with Yangsan city in South Gyeongsang Province reaching 42.5°C – a new national record since 1904. This marks the fourth consecutive day of record-breaking heat in the southeastern region. Several other cities, including Busan, Gimhae, Gyeongju, and Gwangyang, also surpassed 40°C on Sunday. The Korea Meteorological Administration raised heat advisories for Seoul, placing the capital under a second-level alert. Experts attribute the extreme heat to a combination of high-pressure systems and stagnant air in Yangsan. As of July 31st, 1,871 heat-related illnesses have been reported nationwide, tragically resulting in 13 fatalities. The Korea Baseball Organization postponed several league games due to the intense heat, adjusting schedules to utilize cooler evening hours. The heatwave is forecast to continue throughout the week.
