Ousmane Sonko, president of the Pastef party, has stated that the potential expulsion of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye from the party is not currently being considered. In an interview with RFI and France 24, Sonko indicated that any future decision regarding Faye’s membership would be made by the party’s competent bodies at the appropriate time. He dismissed suggestions of an imminent procedure against the President, emphasizing that the party is well-structured and operates according to clear internal rules. Sonko clarified that disciplinary decisions are not within the purview of any single individual, but rather the designated party organs. He reiterated that any potential process would need to adhere to Pastef’s established procedures and internal regulations. Sonko stressed that the party, not he personally, would ultimately assess the situation when and if necessary.
