Somaliland has officially opened a new diplomatic office in Taiwan, asserting its right to determine its own international relationships. During the opening ceremony, Somaliland's top diplomat in Taiwan stated that pressure from both Beijing and Mogadishu has failed to undermine the friendship between the two entities. Strategically located on the Horn of Africa, Somaliland has maintained effective autonomy since 1991. This separation occurred as Somalia descended into a prolonged civil war. Since then, Somaliland has experienced relative peace and stability compared to its neighbor. The move further solidifies the unconventional partnership between the self-declared state and Taiwan. Both parties continue to engage despite lacking widespread international recognition.
