Aging photovoltaic (PV) modules represent a significant and untapped source of valuable raw materials, including silver, copper, and silicon. As the number of decommissioned solar panels increases, a recycling boom is anticipated. However, current recycling infrastructure is insufficient to manage the expected surge in volume. Effectively recycling these panels is crucial for resource recovery and reducing environmental impact. Solar recycling offers economic opportunities alongside environmental benefits, creating a circular economy for solar technology. Further investment and development in recycling facilities are needed to capitalize on this emerging resource stream and ensure sustainable handling of end-of-life solar panels. This will be essential as more panels reach the end of their lifespan.
