Slovenia has lifted a ban on arms trade with Israel, initially imposed in July of the previous year. The decision, announced by the Defence Ministry on Thursday, allows for the resumption of exports and transit of weapons and military equipment to Israel, as well as most arms imports from the country. The ministry stated the original ban is now redundant, as national legislation and European Union regulations already govern the trade of such materials. This move reverses a policy enacted in 2024 amid concerns regarding the conflict in Gaza. Officials maintain that existing legal frameworks provide sufficient oversight for arms dealings. The reinstatement applies to both exports to and imports from Israel. No specific reasons beyond the existing regulatory framework were cited for the policy change.
