Slovenia has designated its fifth regional park, centered on the Snežnik area in the south of the country. The park aims to preserve the region’s extensive, largely untouched forests and distinctive karst topography. Snežnik is ecologically significant as a convergence zone for Mediterranean, Alpine, and Dinaric ecosystems. The establishment of the park comes over a century after initial proposals to protect the area. This new protected area will focus on conservation efforts for the unique biodiversity found within Snežnik. The park’s creation signifies a commitment to long-term environmental preservation in Slovenia.
