The Dobšiná Ice Cave in Slovakia has lost approximately 600 cubic metres of ice over the past year, according to recent research. Experts attribute this significant decrease to increasingly challenging climatic conditions. Specifically, heatwaves are accelerating melting, while sudden rainfall disrupts the ice formation process. A reduction in the number of freezing days is also contributing to the cave's diminishing ice deposits. These findings highlight the vulnerability of this natural wonder to the effects of climate change. The loss threatens the cave’s unique ecosystem and its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Researchers emphasize the urgent need to address climate change to preserve such invaluable glacial formations.
