Slovakia’s legal and conceptual framework for public service media is failing to adapt to the digital era. Originally designed for analog broadcasting, the current regulations do not address the changes brought about by digital content creation, distribution, and consumption. The existing system inadequately reflects the challenges facing public media in a digital landscape. Experts argue the framework is outdated and needs revision to ensure public service media remains relevant. This disconnect impacts how audiovisual content is produced and accessed by citizens. Modernizing these laws is considered crucial for the future viability of public broadcasting in Slovakia. The current situation raises questions about the purpose and effectiveness of public media funding and mandate.
