Slovakia’s acting president, Michal Šimečka, has initiated proceedings to strip Vladimír Danglár of his position as director of the Slovak Information Service (SIS), the country’s intelligence agency. This action follows allegations that Danglár hindered an internal investigation into the handling of a sensitive case involving a politically charged inquiry. Specifically, he is accused of deliberately obscuring information related to the investigation of a probe into the activities of businessman Marián Kočner, who has been linked to numerous corruption scandals and the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak. Šimečka cited a breach of constitutional obligations and a lack of cooperation with the investigation as grounds for the dismissal request. Danglár denies the accusations, claiming political motivation behind the move. The case has ignited political tensions in Slovakia, with opposition parties supporting the president’s decision and the ruling Smer-SD party defending Danglár. The Constitutional Court will ultimately decide on Danglár’s fate.
