Daniele Beráková’s debut novel, *Zipseri: Tanec v mokradiach*, published in June, centers on the life of a family of Germans from the Spiš region in the early 20th century. The story unfolds in the village of Rakúsy, the ancestral home of the author's family. Beráková, born in Spišská Nová Ves, initially perceived Rakúsy as a Gorale (mountain inhabitant) village due to the local dialect. She felt compelled to write the novel because she discovered a lack of documented stories about the German population of Spiš. Her research led her to uncover a rich history within her family’s origins. The book explores the experiences and narratives of this often-overlooked community in Rakúsy and the broader Spiš region.
