The Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) has voted to dissolve the Institute of Political Sciences, effectively ending the employment of Member of European Parliament Ľuboš Blaha, who has worked there for over two decades. The decision, made Tuesday by the SAV assembly, passed with over 71 percent of the vote in a secret ballot. This move is part of a broader restructuring process within the SAV, initiated in 2024 and based on performance agreements. The restructuring aims to reorganize the academy’s operations and improve efficiency. Blaha, a member of the Smer party, has been a prominent figure at the institute for more than 20 years. The closure of the institute signifies a significant shift in the SAV’s research focus and organizational structure. Further details regarding the performance agreements driving these changes have been reported.
