Singapore has initiated a six-month trial program aimed at bolstering its electronic waste (e-waste) collection efforts. The initiative allows residents to conveniently return used phones and laptops via strategically placed lockers and designated collection points at Shopee locations throughout Singapore. This new system builds upon existing e-waste collection programs that commenced in 2021. To date, these programs have successfully gathered over 45,000 tonnes of e-waste. Authorities hope the increased accessibility of the new trial will further encourage responsible disposal of electronic devices. The trial seeks to streamline the recycling process for consumers and contribute to a more sustainable handling of e-waste in Singapore. This initiative underscores Singapore’s commitment to environmental sustainability and circular economy principles.
