Singapore has allocated $14 million to fund projects designed to test and improve coastal defence mechanisms against the growing threat of rising sea levels. These initiatives will be implemented as a “Living Lab,” utilizing real-world environments for practical testing and data collection. The selected test sites include Tanjong Rimau, Changi, Yishun Dam, and East Coast Park, representing diverse coastal conditions. The projects aim to evaluate the effectiveness of various defence strategies and inform future coastal protection policies. This investment reflects Singapore’s proactive approach to climate change adaptation and its commitment to safeguarding its coastline. Data gathered will contribute to more resilient and sustainable coastal management practices. The trials will provide valuable insights into the long-term viability of different defence solutions.
