A new study reveals Singaporean bedrooms average a muggy 28 degrees Celsius, exceeding optimal sleep temperatures. Researchers investigated sleep environments of residents, highlighting the impact of heat and humidity on rest. The findings suggest many homes lack adequate ventilation or cooling. To address this, the study trialled potential solutions at a workers’ dormitory. These included implementing a basic ventilation system and providing personal fans to residents. The research aims to inform strategies for improving sleep quality in Singapore’s warm climate and potentially inform public health recommendations regarding indoor temperature control. Further research is expected to explore the long-term effects of prolonged exposure to high bedroom temperatures.
