The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Oman are establishing temporary maritime corridors in the Persian Gulf due to increasing safety concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. The original shipping lanes are now deemed unsafe for navigation, prompting the rerouting of vessels. This decision follows heightened tensions in the region, necessitating a phased and controlled withdrawal of ships. Two temporary routes are being implemented to facilitate the movement of maritime traffic. Iran is playing an active role in managing the northern passage of these alternative routes. The move aims to mitigate risks to commercial shipping and ensure continued, albeit adjusted, maritime operations in the critical waterway.
