Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called for an end to protests and sit-ins in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging residents to engage in dialogue with the government. The appeal follows recent unrest linked to issues including refugee representation, inflation, and the cost of living, which resulted in clashes and fatalities. Sharif emphasized the constitutional rights afforded to AJK residents and stressed the importance of resolving the situation peacefully ahead of upcoming elections. He urged all stakeholders – the AJK government, Pakistani government, and political parties – to work together to restore peace and facilitate the electoral process. The PML-N leader reiterated his party’s longstanding commitment to the Kashmir issue and advocated for utilizing all resources to improve the welfare of AJK’s population. The call for dialogue comes after the AJK chapter of the PML-N requested Sharif’s intervention to address the escalating tensions in the region.
