Turkey’s Directorate General of Meteorology has issued a yellow alert for 30 provinces, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The alert anticipates strong precipitation beginning around 1 PM local time, with potential for “supercell” storms. Meteorologist Professor Dr. Orhan Şen cautioned residents to be vigilant, highlighting the risk of severe weather events. He linked warming Mediterranean Sea temperatures to an expected increase in convective rainfall across western Turkey. This warming trend suggests a higher probability of supercells, tornadoes, and other natural disasters throughout the year. Professor Şen predicts Turkey will experience a greater number of these types of natural disasters in 2024. Authorities are urging citizens in affected areas to take necessary precautions.
