Dutch voice actor Wim T. Schippers, best known as the voice of Ernie on the Dutch version of Sesame Street, has died. A touching tribute appeared in the Volkskrant newspaper, signed “your friend Bert,” referencing the iconic duo’s close relationship. Paul Haenen, the voice of Bert, confirmed he placed the advertisement. Several Dutch institutions, including the Stedelijk Museum, Centraal Museum, and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, also honored Schippers with memorial ads, playing on the title of his final artwork, “Wim is Weg” (“Wim is Gone”). Public broadcaster NTR, which airs Sesame Street, acknowledged Schippers’ lasting impact on the show. The VPRO, for whom Schippers created numerous programs, and the Wim T. Schippers Foundation also published tributes, utilizing his signature phrase, “Jammer, maar helaas” (“Too bad, but that’s that”).
