Senegal’s national electricity company, SENELEC, has recovered over 180 million CFA francs in the Kaolack region through anti-fraud operations initiated in early 2025. The recovery results from specialized teams identifying and addressing illegal connections. Nationally, electricity fraud costs SENELEC over 80 billion CFA francs annually. Alongside fraud enforcement, SENELEC is expanding electrification access, with 12,683 localities currently connected and work ongoing in another 6,571. The company added 156,000 new subscribers in 2025 and aims for universal electricity access by 2029. SENELEC is also promoting responsible energy consumption through prepaid meters and emphasizing electrical safety, particularly ahead of the rainy season.
