Saly Sarr, a 23-year-old athlete from Dakar, Senegal, has become the first Senegalese athlete—male or female—to win the prestigious Diamond League competition in triple jump. Discovered by teachers in 2011, she quickly excelled in athletics, specializing in the triple jump after demonstrating initial success in heptathlon and high jump, earning medals at the 2019 African Cadet Championships in Abidjan. Sarr’s progression included an eighth-place finish at the 2021 World Junior Championships in Nairobi and a silver medal at the 2022 African Athletics Championships in Saint-Pierre, Mauritius. She secured her first African Championship title in Douala, Cameroon in June 2024, surpassing compatriot Sangoné Kandji, and added a gold medal at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh. Further solidifying her international standing, she earned a bronze medal at the 2026 World Indoor Championships in Toruń before her breakthrough Diamond League victory in the summer of 2026.
