Wrestler Oumar Kane, known as “Reug Reug,” and two associates were not immediately tried after appearing before the Dakar public prosecutor’s office. Instead, the prosecutor has initiated a formal judicial investigation, transferring the case to an examining magistrate for a more thorough process. Kane, Ahmadou Bamba Ndiaye, and Diégane Faye were arrested by the Faidherbe research brigade and initially held, but were returned to detention pending further decisions. They are scheduled to appear again Tuesday at the Dakar Palace of Justice. The men face charges including criminal association, attempted fraud, and possession of materials for counterfeiting currency. Due to the severity of these accusations, a quick trial was bypassed in favor of the more in-depth judicial inquiry, which aims to gather both incriminating and exculpatory evidence under the guidance of an independent judge. This process is mandatory for crimes under Senegalese law.
