Senegal’s High Representative, Aminata Touré, participated in the annual Madrid Club Dialogue, addressing international leaders on the need for global governance reform. Speaking on behalf of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Touré advocated for a revision of the relationship between Africa and international institutions. Her speech focused on systemic imbalances, including high international interest rates imposed on African nations and a lack of transparency in multinational taxation. Touré also reiterated the long-standing demand for a permanent African seat on the United Nations Security Council, citing it as a key institutional imbalance. Furthermore, she raised the issue of reparations for the historical injustices of slavery and colonization, urging their inclusion in international discussions on justice and equity. The Senegalese delegation’s assertive role signals a more proactive diplomatic approach under President Faye’s leadership.
